Kristin Drecktrah Paz is a partner at PBY&A practicing at the Coral Gables office. She is a litigator with more than a decade of experience focusing on arbitration and litigation of complex disputes before under diverse rules in arbitration and in state and federal courts. Having tried cases from inception to trial and final hearing in arbitration, she is committed to helping her clients navigate their complicated issues with strategic vision and acumen. Kristin has experience handling complex international and domestic disputes in a wide range of industries, among them energy and natural resources, construction, financial services, and technology. She counsels clients in their matters involving contract disputes, business torts, partner and shareholder disputes, deceptive and unfair trade practices, and commercial and real estate disputes. She has experience prosecuting and defending claims against sovereign states and state-owned enterprises in arbitration and federal court. As one of 35 attorneys–and only 5 women–board certified by The Florida Bar in international litigation and arbitration, Kristin serves as Vice Chair of the International Litigation and Arbitration Certification Committee. She is the Immediate Past President of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (MDFAWL). She is also an active member of the Executive Council of The Florida Bar International Law Section, the International Law and Litigation Sections of the American Bar Association, and Arbitral Women.
She earned her JD from Florida International University College of Law, where she served as an editor of the FIU Law Review and competed in commercial and investment international arbitration moot competitions. Prior to that, she earned her BA in Spanish and Portuguese Studies from the University of Minnesota and later received a Master in Translation and Interpretation from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. Kristin often speaks and moderates on panels dealing with international litigation and arbitration at seminars and conferences. She was named an On the Rise Honoree (2020), a Most Effective Lawyer – Arbitration (2019), and a Most Effective Lawyer – Business/Complex Litigation (2017) by the Daily Business Review. The Florida Association for Women Lawyers named her a Leader in the Law in 2018, and she was a Florida Trend Legal Elite, International, in 2021. She was also named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers for International Law from 2016 to 2021. Kristin speaks both Portuguese and Spanish.

  • Litigated several successful petitions for discovery pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1782 related to current or reasonably contemplated proceedings abroad.
  • Commenced $200 million investor-state dispute against Australia related to inequitable securities law.
  • Represented Haitian manufacturer in federal court against subsidiary of U.S. clothing company’s petition to stay Haitian civil proceedings and compel arbitration in Miami.
